Albuquerque Trolley Tour

Beautiful day to ride the trolley!

Sunday, April 9th, and it seems as though we didn't get much sightseeing done in past years when we stopped in Albuquerque.  Those prior visits took us primarily north or south of the city, so we decided to take a recommended open air trolley tour to get a good overview and learn some history.

We purchased two tickets online for roughly $74 for a two-hour ABQ Trolley Company's Best of ABQ City Tour.  We chose the 11 a.m. start since it works better for leaving the dogs behind.  We met at the Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town.  It was a sunny day with quite a bit of wind for the open air trolley ride, but we brought jackets and water, along with our cameras.

Our tour guide was Blake, who provided a wealth of information.  And, Jesse, our driver, received George's compliments on a great job maneuvering through some fairly tight spots and construction.  There were several stops where we had the option to hop off and hop back on in a couple of hours, at least until 5 p.m., but again, we had concerns over leaving the dogs unattended for too long.  Next visit we'll know where to go!

Valerie exhausted the battery on her cell phone camera, and George got a few shots, although it was often easier said than done, shooting photos from a moving vehicle.  The trolley took us through the Downtown, University, Country Club, Nob Hill and Old Town areas, where we saw lots of sights and learned lots of facts about Albuquerque.

All in all, it was a great day and a wonderful experience.  So much diversity in the architecture!  What stood out that we observed and learned was the many colorful murals, that lots of movies and TV shows are filmed here, if you want to try the green and red chili on your food to ask for 'Christmas', that the sun shines most days, that Bill Gates got into some traffic troubles here early on in his career and that Route 66 intersects itself right here in Albuquerque!

Rested and relaxed, tomorrow we start the two-day drive towards Denver!
